Introduction to Mindfulness for Law Students: Real Tools for Balancing School/Work/Life, Communicating, & Focusing

Mindful lawyering is catching on in law schools and law practices across the country. Students and attorneys report that mindful meditation helps them focus, manage stress, communicate with colleagues and clients, and makes them happier overall. The University of Virginia’s Mindfulness Center has developed a workshop especially to introduce U.Va. law students to mindfulness & meditation tools. In each one-hour session of the 8-week workshop, Mindfulness Center instructors will give step-by-step introductions to tools like stress-reducing meditation, mindful listening, and mindful eating. This is an introductory workshop – students without any prior experience or knowledge of mindfulness and meditation are encouraged to participate (as are students with prior experience)! Sessions include instruction, practice, & group discussion. The workshop is designed to give you mindfulness and meditation tools you can immediately apply to your everyday life, and continue to use and develop after the workshop ends. The series will meet on Wednesday afternoons, 3:45-4:45, beginning February 5 until the first week of April (no meeting during Spring Break). Enrollment is open to 30 students. Participation boosts your benefits from the workshop, so participants should commit to attending all eight sessions.
