On August 4, 2015, while in Aix-en-Provence, Ronald Sokol wrote an essay titled, “A Transatlantic Conversation:  Meador-Sokol Letters 1967–2012.” This essay is a reflection on the person Ronald Sokol was in various decades of his life: law student at the University of Virginia, law professor and trial lawyer in Virginia, traveler to Japan, and practicing lawyer in France. Sokol documents the “road less traveled by” that led him to a 45-year correspondence with Daniel Meador, and the impact they had on each other:
